Microorganisms of a family of fungi, called the Lepiotaceae, live with leaf-cutter ants. The ants collect fresh leaves to grow the fungus, and then they feed the fungus to their larvae. Another type of microorganism, a fungus of the Ophiocordyceps family, also
has a relationship with a type of ant. The spores of the fungus attaches to carpenter ants in order to complete its life cycle. The
spores spread into the ant's body and causes behavioral changes in the ant, eventually causing the ant's death.
