100 POINTS! In Texas, when talking about minerals, the mineral material people are discussing is petroleum products like oil and gas. These are considered "minerals" by the law. Also, due to their high price, they are often emphasized over actual minerals (by the scientific definition). Although Texas is the home to a considerable amount of oil and gas, the state also holds a rich amount of non-petroleum mineral and rock material. In the following link, the Texas Almanac lists many of these materials, describes where they are found, and what they are used for.
