Mammals are known to be dominant in its environment, actively seeking its targets. Furthermore, the hairs on the jaguar would be an indicator of its status as a mammal. As mammals are known to have hair, and it is thus a mammal characteristic. They are known to be warm blooded, and one instance in the passage that hints at the jaguar's warm bloodedness would be when it pants in order to stay cool.
