King penguins live on or near Antartica. The females lay one egg at a time with an incubation period of more than 50 days. The female and male parent take turns carrying the egg to keep it warm and protected while the other parent returns to the sea to feed. This method of reproductive strategy is actually or typically different to most of the ones I am conversant with. For example, when most animals are going through incubation period, especially the birds, it is the only female that carries out this process, and it will leave the place of incubation when it needs to feed. In other group of animals like reptiles, the female will lay eggs in a dug pit or land, lay its eggs and cover it up with sand which will eventually incubate the eggs.

But in this aspect, the incubation involved the male and the female, which is totally different from what I knew before.
