A new kind of daffodil was developed that makes yellow or white flowers. Assume that color in flowers is controlled by a single-gene locus and that the yellow allele (C) is dominant to the white allele (c). A random sample of 1000 daffodils from a large cultivated field yields 836 yellow flowers and 164 white flowers. Assuming the population is at Hardy-Weinberg equilibrium, estimate the proportion of all yellow flowering plants that are heterozygotes and the proportion that are homozygotes.
