In a phylogenic tree, organisms are sorted into clades. Each clade consists of groups of organisms that are arranged in a manner such that most closely related species lie close to each other. Also they descended from the same ancestors.  

If we look at the given phylogenic tree, we can see that both the red wolf and common fox lie at the first level of classification while dog lie at the second level of classification and hence red wolf and common fox will be more closely related to  each other than the dog.
