Alternation of generations in plants refers to the fact that plants make a multicellular haploid structure (free living in some or in the flower in angiosperms) via meiosis and subsequent mitosis and then make gametes through mitosis. These gametes undergo fertilization toproudece a multicellular free living plant that is diploid. The result is that there is a multicellular haploid generation and a multicellular diploid gerneations which alternate.
