The Statue of Liberty stands 93 meters tall in New York Harbor. It is made of the metal copper. Copper is a
ductile metal with very high thermal and electrical conductivity. Pure copper is soft and malleable; a freshly
exposed surface has a reddish-orange color. It is used as a conductor of heat and electricity and as a building
material, as we see here. When copper is exposed to air or seawater over a period of time it reacts to form this
blue-green color called verdigris. Copper has a density of 8.96 g cm'. It will melt at 1084.62°C.
Consider the paragraph above. What is one chemical property of copper?
Copper reacts with air and sea water.
Copper will melt at 1084.62°C.
