Heterotrophic organisms are those organisms which are unable to make their own food. These organisms depend on other organisms for the uptake of nutrients. Example of heterotrophic organisms are animals and humans etc. Animals take nutrients by eating other organisms.

Autotrophic organisms are those organisms which has the ability to make their own food in the process of photosynthesis. Example of autotrophic organisms are plants and algae etc. Plants make their own food from the process of photosynthesis.
