Soil structure means the arrangement of soil particles and pore size. These characteristics can affect the physical properties of soil too (density, color, consistency, porosity, and temperature). For example, if a soil texture is more sandy in nature (in terms of pore size and not chemical characteristics), its high pore size can retain more moisture and organic carbon. This will enhance biogeochemical cycles and microbial turnover leading to a change in the physical properties of soil. In the long term, the soil will be more organic in nature (cryosol). On the other hand, if the soil is clayey in nature, it has low porosity and hence can retain less water that supports lesser microbial communities..
