The lysosome contains lysosomal enzymes, which are digestive enzymes that catalyse the breaking down of such substances. Lysosomes are very acidic to aid the function of these enzymes.

With a defective lysosomal enzyme, you might expect the cell to have a build up of damaged or old organelles, and also a build up of macromolecules that the cell needs to lysosomes to break down. This could mean that the cell becomes starved of a food source and unable to perform respiration and other related tasks.
