Decomposition is a process by which the organic substances obtain from plants, animals and other living beings get broken down into simple substances that can be readily absorbed by the plants. The decomposition process is necessary for the nutrient cycling. The bodies of living organisms start decomposing after death.

In tropical forests the long tree species are abundantly present and they require nutrients to survive. The decaying and decomposition plant or animal matter in the soil is readily absorbed by these trees and there is competition for soil rich nutrients. The nutrients are not available that can be absorbed by the deep layers of the soil. Thus the soil contains low nutrient content.
