Why was the genetic information from the distantly related cormorant unusable for this research? why was it important for genetic comparison to find a closely related cormorant species?
species that are closely related will have more similarities in their genetic code than species that are distantly related. the close relationship can evolutionary scientists pick out the specific changes that occurred in the genetic code to give these birds flightless wings.
