Embryology can be described as a branch of biology in which studies about the fertilization, formation, growth and development of embryos are made.

The study of the embryos can help us understand the evolutionary histories among different organisms. By comparing the stages of development of embryos of different organisms, we can find which embryos have similar methods of development and hence, are closer to one another on the evolutionary tree.
