Tillage can release pollutants in the soil and increase erosion. Tillage involved breaking up of soil particles by digging, stirring, harrowing, overturning, etc, in order to prepare the soil for planting of seeds. This practice usually increases the incidence of soil erosion and run offs on the farm land. To prevent this, many farmers usually practice conservation tillage, in which they leave the remnants of the previous harvest on the farm land before and after planting for the next season.
