If there's another predator that would enter the territory of the puffins and it preys on the puffins main food source, than the puffins will be under a big evolutionary pressure. Since the food sources are limited and there's more competition which is also better at hunting the main food source, the puffins will have to undergo some changes in order to survive.

The puffin will have to evolve in a manner when it can hunt several types of fish, thus its beak will have to return to its previous shape and abandon the more specialized shape. By doing so, the puffins will be able to hunt multiple types of fish efficiently which means bigger food source, so in order to survive the better equipped competition the puffins will have to become more opportunistic eaters and undergo a change in which their beak will de-evolve.
