Some genes have been shown to predispose someone to obesity. These genes have been shown to influence appetite and food intake in this person. Therefore a mutation in this gene can cause increased appetite, high food intake and carrying more fat in the body.

However, lifestyle is the biggest contributor to body shape and size. A sedentary lifestyle is the biggest attribute to being overweight as compared to genetic predisposition.
