Pyruvic acid is the end product of glycolysis formed in the cytoplasm of the cell. Pyruvic acid undergoes several changes to become acetyl Coenzyme A (acetyl CoA). Conversion of pyruvic acid to Acetyl CoA occurs in the mitochondrial matrix. Acetyl CoA enters into Citric acid cycle and is further converted to oxaloacetate, an intermediate compound, and then converted to citric acid, the first stable product in citric acid cycle.
