Ihave 2 questions. if ice is melting is energy applied or is it removed. and at an atomic level what was happening to the atoms in the ice was it slowing down or speeding up

2. And at atomic level, the atoms are speeding up. Part of the energy is used to increase the kinetic energy of the ice particles, since the faster the particles are, the hotter an object will be. Therefore, since melting requires the ice to become a hotter substance, the particles are obviously moving faster.
