Step 1: Select Art You will start by selecting three pieces of art that you would like to first evaluate and then use aspects from each of the three pieces to create a new, digital piece of artwork all your own!

Think about art that you have seen that has appealed to you or spoken to you in some way. The art that you select and use for this lab can be in any form or any type of art—paintings, sculptures, commercial art, abstract art, etc.

However, make sure that you will be able to take aspects or qualities from each piece of art that you choose and blend them together to form a new piece of digital art.

Find an online image or take a picture of each piece of artwork that you will use and insert these images into a word processing document with a title for each original piece.

Step 2: Art Critique
Next, you will evaluate and critique the art by answering the questions below for each piece of art:

Who is the artist of the piece, when was it created, and what is the title?
What adjectives could be used to describe it?
What is the subject of the art?
How does the artist use color (light and dark), and how does it impact the art?
How do the individual principles come together to make the art?
What kind of mood or feelings does the art create?
Is the artist showing order or chaos?
What kind of message did you get from the image and did the artist communicate it well?
What do you think of the artist’s use of color?
What are your three favorite aspects of this piece of art (use of color, texture, the subject, the mood, etc.)
Feel free to write several short paragraphs to form a short, cohesive essay that answers each of the questions about each piece of art OR you may copy/paste the questions below each piece of art and provide your answer under the bulleted questions. You should have three critiques when you finish this step.

Step 3: Remaster the Art
Now it’s time to take several aspects or components from each piece of art that you evaluated and create your own original piece of digital art that seamlessly blends these three pieces.

There are a variety of ways that you can create this digital art—with a program that you may already have on your computer like Photoshop, PowerPoint, or Keynote or with a free online program such as Inkscape or Canva.

Do some online research into free online digital art creation programs and decide what you will use to create your piece of digital art.

Once you have selected the appropriate tool for creating your digital art, select at least three components from each piece of art that you evaluated to include in your digital piece. As long as you have three aspects/components from each piece of art that you evaluated, the rest of your digital art piece can be composed of whatever you like!

Step 4: Evaluate Your Art
The final step in this lab will be evaluating your own piece of digital art. Please answer the following questions about your digital art piece:

Describe the artwork that you created. (What medium is used? What is the subject matter? What elements of art are used? etc.)
What three elements from each piece did you use and why?
What do you think is successful about this artwork? Please be specific.
What parts of the artwork do you think need the most improvement? Why?
What would you do differently if you did this artwork again?
Do you like this artwork? Explain your answer, please.
