By: Annie Leblanc

For Joe, Tye, and Ameema. Thank you for being the best friends in my life.

Dear diary,

I am still stuck in quarantine and my life keeps getting weirder and weirder. It all started on this one summer morning. The birds chirped and the stray cats were roaming around on our lawn, just like a normal regular summer day. I decided it would be a good idea if I went outside for some fresh air.

I ran up the stairs into my closet and got changed as fast as I could. I ran down the stairs like a bolt of lightning while slipping on my shoes.

“MOM” I yelled.

“I’m going out”

I raced out of the house and felt the fresh breeze in my face quickly forming a huge smile. After a while I decided to take a break and lay on the grass. I had this odd feeling someone was watching me so I got up and looked around but, I didn’t see anyone. I quietly layyed back down silently feeling like a spy trying to find the criminal.

After a while I didn’t hear anything so I decided to go back home. On the way home I saw something black, when I started moving closer to it it would move farther away from me. I decided to leave it alone thinking it is only a black paper bag being flown by the wind.

When I got home, I rang the doorbell.

“DING DING!!”

The same ring and tone I have heard for two years of my life.

After waiting a few seconds, the door swung open and I see my mom in a beautiful dress and my family behind her.

“What's going on?” I said in confusion.

“Suprise!!” they all yelled.

I was still confused on what was the surprise and the fancy dresses were about. I surely knew it wasn’t my birthday today.

“We are testing you if you can be responsible of the house while we are all at the party” my mom explained.

“Sure” I said.

My mom looked very excited about the party she was smiling ear to ear. She grabbed the car keys and pushed my brother and sisters outside.

“Be good” she said.

Locking the door behind her.

“I guess it will be tv for now” I said quietly.

A while later my stomach began rumbling like the sound of an over watered ocean with thunder above so I decided to go and eat something. I was looking out the window to see if my parents arrived and I saw the black bag again I started worrying.

“Breathe. In and out. In and out” I kept telling myself.

Once I finished eating my dinner, I went into my mom's room and started writing a book. I sat there thinking what should be the name but nothing came out right. It was getting late so I shut down my laptop and went to watch some tv.

I fell asleep on the sofa with my cat Julie named after my favorite singer.

I woke up with the warmth of the suns first rays shining in my room. The smell of my dad making his number one best coffee.

“Mom! Dad! They should be home by now!!” saying in my happiest voice I could.

“MOM! DAD! I MISSED YOU SO MUCH YES-”

“Mom? Dad?” I said in confusion.

“Where could they go” I thought. After thinking for a while, I figured they might have stayed at Granma's because they left late and didn’t want to drive half an hour to get home.

Few hours later I start getting bored.

“I don’t think Mom will mind if I go out for a little while right?” I spoke.

I was running up the stairs when I heard a very loud noise. Someone was screaming outside. Some man with the black bag that I saw yesterday!! Forgetting that I was in my pajamas I was running outside to greet the man.

He was taller than I expected.

“How do you do” the man said.

“I am doing quite well, thank you” I said.

“You must have just woken up from your beauty sleep, am I right?” he said.

Looking down at myself seeing I was still I'm my night clothes was really embarrassing. I was getting hotter by the second.

“Yes, I just did” I said being red as a tomato.

“You mind holding the bag for me” asked the man.

“I have no problem with that” I said trying to be as polite as I can.

“May you open the bag” he said.

“Of course,” I said.

He put his hand inside and took out a Starbucks Frappuccino.

“Wala" he said like he was some magician.

He put the straw in and handed it to me.

“No sir I'm sorry but that’s too much I can take that from you” I said while trying to keep myself from snatching it from his hands.

“My friend it's for you” he said kindly.

I couldn't resist my eyes.

“Thank you” I said.
