⦁ Look. Begin by simply looking at the artworks. What materials were used to make the works? What do you notice about the use of texture in these pieces? The use of color? Form? How is value used? What types of lines did these artists use? What shapes did they use?
⦁ See. What do you see in each artwork, literally? What do you think the artist is telling us? Do you see anything symbolic in the pieces?
⦁ Think. What do you know about the artist? If you know something about him or her, does that knowledge help you better understand the work? If you don’t know anything, does the artist’s name tell you anything about her or him? What year was the work created? What does this tell you about the time in which the artist was working? How old was the artist when the work was created? Read the information included with each work. Does that help you better understand the work?
