1. it's appealing to the eye. it is most likely to get people's attention and interest because of the pleasing visuals (colours, shapes etc)
2. it's used as an alternative way to teach people with different learning styles (visual learners)
3. i can't think of 3rd :/

Perspective is important because it enabled the 3 dimensional world to be translated into the 2d world of the picture plane. this had an immediate impact on the representation of reality in art and design.
