Because there were a set of rules that governed how music would be composed and performed, the earliest examples, including Gregorian chants, were mostly monophonic (def. singular line of music); however, as time passed and the rules were either broken or discarded, music became increasingly polyphonic (def. many voices), which may have been attributed to the fact that Renaissance musicians sought to create a melody for every voice in their compositions. Homophony (def. two parts consisting of a melody and accompaniment) soon followed in the footsteps of polyphony, rising to prominence around the start of the Baroque Period. Since then, each of the three types of texture--monophony, homophony, and polyphony--helped lay the foundation upon which music would continue to thrive and evolve.

Provide 5-7 examples of each type of texture, being sure to include things both musical and non-musical.
