Also, things taken photos of have changed, such as landscapes. There were mostly small, hilly villages being taken back then, when now, you can see more buildings, and modern constructions. I think that photographers are testing boundaries more, because they know that if there was a high building, and someone or something was doing a cool pose, more people would view it than a simple house with a garden backyard.
