Why did world war 1 increase the popularity of musicals?

the music used within musicals were often patriotic (was able to be used as a form of propaganda) . the money made from the musicals helped support the u.s. troops and lastly musical ended up as a way to Escape stress or just became a favorable pastime etc. if that makes sense.
