The cut and burn method is one of the most problematic. It is a method through which the people cut and then burn all of the vegetation in a particular area in order to open up the space for agriculture. While this works on the short term, it doesn't on the long term, because the soil is often of relatively low quality, and without its natural protection it erodes rapidly. As the soil becomes infertile, the people just continue with the process, leaving empty and destroyed land behind them.
